‍King George V Playing Fields was bought for the town by public subscription in 1937 as part of a national scheme to commemorate the death of HM King George V. It is protected in perpetuity as a 'Field in Trust' but run by the Town Council.

It now has several assets and recreational features.

These include:

- A Children's Play Area

- Melksham Splash Pad

- An Adventure Play Area

- New CCTV and WiFi infrastructure

- New festoon lighting around the park

- Eco-Loos

- A newly-refurbished cafe run by Evie's Kitchen- open 7 days a week, 9am-5pm
