Crofton Beam Engines are in steam this weekend with living industrial heritage for all the family.

Crofton's mighty engines will be in action this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. We will have steam up and a tonne of water a stroke being lifted by each engine to feed the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Our site will be open from 10am on both days. You can visit the Smithy Tea Room and enjoy our beautiful views across Brunel's railway and the Kennet and Avon Canal to Wilton Water and beyond.

Our boiler will be raising steam and our engines will start pumping water at about 10.30 when we will open the pumping station to visitors. We only steam 15 days a year, so don't miss this golden opportunity to see these rare, globally important steam driven beam engines in action. Our 1812 engine, installed when Napoleon was retreating from Moscow, is the oldest in the world still in its original location still doing its original job.

There are plenty of activities for children including our self-guided crafting area, Duck Race and mini lock system. On Saturday only, our marvellous water lifting machines will be on display, have a go at lifting water with a bucket and hoist, an Archimedean screw, and other weird ways of getting water up hill.
