Leisure
The Assembly Hall began life in 1847 as part of the new Market Hall that was used to store and sell cheese as the local dairy industry expanded. By the late 1800s and early 1900s it was used as a drill hall for the local volunteer brigade and eventually decommissioned by the Army in 1942. After the Second World War the building was renovated and with a new lease of life as the Assembly Hall, it became a popular venue for entertainment. In the1970s the venue hosted rock bands such as Status Quo, Mungo Jerry and Thin Lizzy.
Today, the Melksham Assembly Hall hosts a wide range of live events and activities and is also available for private events.
Our Main Hall is one of the largest and most versatile in Wiltshire. In the past, we have hosted events ranging from first birthday parties to wedding receptions and fairs/bazaars. In addition, we have fantastic IT facilities for conferences and lectures.
